Anita Lienert
Anita Lienert covers the industry for line/daily news. She was an auto columnist at the Detroit News from December, 1993 to January, 2007. She is the winner of 14 Detroit Press Club Foundation awards for feature and automotive writing, including the Golden Wheel Award Grand Prize in 1998. She also won an Associated Press Award for public service writing in 2000 and won the Society of Professional Journalists Detroit Chapter first place award for feature writing in 2000 for her series, “The Making of Michigan,” which chronicled the lives of three Michigan families going back five generations.

She has deep roots in Detroit. Her paternal grandfather worked in the foundry of the Ford Rouge Plant and her maternal grandfather worked on the line at the Graham-Paige plant in Detroit before opening a bar that catered to workers at the Chrysler McGraw Glass Plant.
Lienert is a 1975 graduate of Michigan State University and has been a reporter for 30 years, including stints at U.S. News & World Report and as a Detroit correspondent for People magazine, covering such subjects as Major League Baseball.
